Lauren Newby received her BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has since continued developing a practice rooted in mentorship, seeking growth in furniture making and traditional craft. Since 2023, she has worked as an independent artisan, supporting her practice through teaching, historical reconstruction, and designing and building furniture. In 2022 Lauren was invited to participate in the residency at Haystack (ME). She received mentorship in chairmaking through The Chairmaker’s Toolbox and assisted Harold Green in a course at Penland (NC). In 2025, she was an endowed fellow at the Center for Furniture Craft (ME). Lauren’s teaching experience includes: North House Folk School (MN), Fireweed Community Woodshop (MN), and Green Door Folk School (MI). She is currently a participant in the Artist in Development Program at North House Folk School, where I engage in a vibrant craft community dedicated to building community through teaching traditional craft.
